The Yashica-Mat pictured above is one picked up on eBay, in great condition. Judging from the serial number, it appears to have been made back in 1969.
Using this camera is a real joy and the image quality is great - there's something about medium format film that no dSLR or filter can quite match... not better or worse, just a different look you get on film which I quite like. Plus, no batteries to buy, forget, or recharge!
Ah, the joys of working with what's essentially a box with a lens and some film in it... not even a light meter to help out, so you're on your own with this one, using the old 'sunny 16' and related rules, or a handheld meter (in a pinch, your digital camera makes a good meter as well).
The island of Inishbofin looking decidedly tropical for the West of Ireland... First time shooting Velvia 50 on a Yashica Mat - tough film to get right, but good weather and a great film lab definitely help!
Many thanks to the folks at T&C Live for a great review of this shot 'Missed Bus'. Shot taken with a Kodak Portra 400 / Yashica Mat
